Welcome to Essex No Dig

How we Start a No Dig Bed.

The initial costing/outlay can, may seem expensive to some and honestly was for us, especially if you have no access to any free home made compost to start you off and the need to purchase it by the bag or bulk (Good option to consider) to start any raised beds. Costs can be high for your new No Dig allotment if you not had the work done for you prior to starting out, but remember get the compost bay in first when starting your new allotment clearing process.

Mulch it all up preferable and layer it like making a lasagne incorporating the grass you cut and with a layer of cardboard too is our practice...

Trust us, home made compost making in the long run is very rewarding, beneficial on your pocket and you exactly know whats gone into it. Oh and less back strain from digging to say the least and of course good for the ground you grow in is our opinion.

We/You can just lay your cardboard straight onto grass or ground maybe with weeds and then add 2 inches maybe three inches of compost on top and plant up, water in and away you go.

IMPORTANT NOTE REMINDER!

You must remember to water the cardboard (Soak) BEFORE adding the compost on top.

We actually added 3 - 5 inches as we had access to compost free.

Thats it watch the produce grow, harvest and enjoy.
